I was most prepared and educated to make important decisions during this part of the day as the morning’s information was still fresh in my mind and I had a chance to contemplate it.Īfter I was done business strategizing the day began to take a turn for the worst. During this time I felt like I had enhanced clarity on business decisionsĪpparently, during the war, Winston met with his war cabinet during this time and I understand why. After so much data and contemplation, the midday drink helped me to take bigger swings and make hard decisions about my business. I spend my time doing business strategizing while I sipped on the Whiskey and Soda. The Whiskey and Soda was surprisingly welcome after the walk albeit very sugary. The sun was out and it was relatively warm. Since it is winter where I live, this was the perfect time of day to walk. I found myself strategizing about my business future and my future. This was the first real part of the day but my mind was still lost in all information I had gone through that morning. Since I don’t live in Downing Street I decided to use this time to walk my dog instead - although I did start my walk by walking around my house to make sure everything was in order. A Midday Walk for Clarity (on business decisions)Īround 11:00 AM, Churchill would walk around the garden and then have a Whiskey and Soda. I found it interesting that he started his day by taking in so much information especially because it seemed like the next part of his day was dedicated to digesting it. I had time to thoroughly read over information relevant to my business, catch up with current events, go through my emails, and begin to strategize the next moves. Such a data-centric morning allowed me to focus on understanding events in the world and my business before making decisions to act upon them. During this time he would read reports, read newspapers, and dictate notes to his secretary. I understand why he stayed in bed so long - after eating a whole British Fry Up that morning I had to lie down too! I can’t imagine eating such a big breakfast every day…Ĭhurchill would remain in bed from around 7:30–11:00 AM: a full three and a half hours. ![]() Winston Churchills Daily Routine A Data-Driven BreakfastĬhurchill woke up at 7:30 AM and had breakfast in bed (a full British Fry Up) while reading newspapers and reports. So how did Churchill do so many paradoxical things? How was he so successful? Maybe the answer lies in his daily routine… I tried it for a day to see if I could understand how the British leader got so much done with such an unusual routine. Despite this Churchill never once considered giving in to Hitler and instead held the line until the Allies could be formed. He came to power at a time when Britain was backed into a corner and it looked like surrender to Hitler would be eminent. His diet consisted of cheese, meat, Indian food, clear soups, and a ridiculous amount of eating.Ĭhurchill was a controversial political figure, partly because he was known for deviating from his party’s beliefs and partly for the difficult decisions he made during World War II. He was an evening person, but he didn’t let his mornings fall into a lack of productivity.Īlthough his health wasn’t perfect he is also known for living to the age of 90 despite a lifestyle rich in large meals, cigars, and alcohol. Winston Churchill had a crazy routine! He is known for leading Britain to victory during World War II as prime minister despite staying in bed until 11:00 AM every morning. ![]() Photo by Barthelemy de Mazenod on Unsplash Intro
